ExplorationThe theme for my freshman year was exploration.
I spent freshman year experimenting. The summer before school started, I was blessed with the opportunity to spend a month in Italy with the International Lions Club Youth Exchange Program. Once at Drury, I joined the Drury Allies Organization and the Drury Ukulele Club (DUkes). I took classes like Microbiology, Acting 1, Shakespeare and Ethics, Classical Problems in Philosophy, and a few education classes including a semester of teacher aide. I declared an Elementary Education major at the end of my first semester because I was told my life would get easier if I picked a major instead of staying undecided. It was valuable experience because it taught me that I don't want to be an elementary ed. teacher; it is just as valuable to know what you don't want to do than what you do. I also got very involved in Drury's Theatre program. At the end of the year I decided to declare a Biology major with a minor in Communication and Theatre! |
The pictures on the right and below are from second semester. Below is
my ukulele club the DUkes at the Gilloiz Theater, playing for a Springfield Sister Cities Conference. To the right is my best friends and me supporting our school's amazing basketball team. Under that is the cast of the spring musical, The Fantasticks, preparing for a two week run of an amazing show that I was extremely thankful to be a part of. I realized at the end of the second semester that I missed science and biology and that Elementary Ed was not for me, so I switched my major to a BA in Biology.
